Working from home often isn’t easy if its not the kids its other distractions during your working hours that appear. Fact is though having a shipping container for working from home in the back garden or other location separates home and work spaces. I remember back in the UK wanting an office space away from the house for the convenience of keeping people off my work area. Nothing worse than dealing with an important client on the phone to find your pen and notepad are missing. Discussing it later to find out you had a 2 year old visit and your partner decided to let them use it as a scribbling pad. Arguments then ensue and the “but its only a pen” response inflames the situation more.

The other side of this being it keeps people out of your house which in some cases needs to happen. Over the years working in the construction field you come across the odd drug addict from time to time where nobody notices their habit until things start disappearing. Out of sight, out of mind is always the best policy.

I remember looking at a spruce cabin before and seeing a £10,000 price tag on it where a container before starting installing windows,doors and delivery came in at £200 at that time. Doesn’t take much considering which is the better option for the budget especially when the money you save you can have a much more secure and creature comfort office with new chairs and other furniture for the same budget.
It wasn’t an insult to say its built more of a trailer type home because in reality that is what they look like. At the same time in the UK the caravans on a site can be expensive due to their location. They are functional and practical as well as utilizing the space people need rather than space people want. It reminds me of my home back in the UK when I would wander across the dining room to get to the kitchen or go upstairs and I ask myself the question how often did we use the dining room and how often was it utilized fully? Answer rarely it was a room that was expensive to heat with high ceilings and large floor area yet we never used it. This is a practical example of why the container type homes work as people use the space they have and use it the best they can.
The container above is located in Hawaii which is a location that suffers with excess shipping containers giving cheap pods to work from. This is unit has an office and apartment featuring office space, kitchen, bath and bedroom. The addition of T-111 siding and a flat roof improves the durability of the unit and enhances its appearance.
Here in the Philippines I often come across new building developments and guard houses on sub divisions with terrible conditions for the guards. Considering they are the first port of call when visiting a site they are also the first image that reflects on a company. At the same time expecting professionalism from workers also comes about by treating them with respect as well. A run down old shack isn’t what I would call a step in the right direction but these converted cut down containers offer a good solid location that offer a functional and practical office space. At the same time once the homes are completed and possibly a new guard house is constructed these units can be moved meaning instead of constructing a shack every sub division development you can physically take a “mobile” guard house/reception with you.
